What Are Multimedia Apps, Anyway?

You may not ever have to ask yourself this question until you need to create some content online. What are multimedia apps? Basically, multimedia apps ( applications), are websites or online programs that do something. They often are used by a consumer to create something or assist them in some way.

Some content that might be in a multimedia app are:
  • Text
  • Images
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Animation
Blogger is a multimedia app. It is an online application that I, the consumer, am using to create something and then you, the consumer, are utilizing to learn from. There are fonts, images, colors, and other content to help me interact with the program and then connect what I make to the internet so I can share it with the world! Yay! Thank you multimedia apps for opening a whole new world for us laymen to create and have fun online. We can at least pretend we are computer savvy now. Enjoy this short video for a little more detail:

Journalists for online news resources, use multimedia to get the information to the people of the world. TheGuardian, for example, has a great use of imagery by placing an interesting photo with almost every headline. This helps draw the viewer in. There's lots of links to go to other news pages to gain more information. Tabs at the top of the page take you to specific types of news. There's often videos to watch for those who prefer a visual description of the news. Of course, for a news site, there's also tons of text, but broken up in a way that doesn't overwhelm or bore the reader. I really like how they use quotes from certain people or news stories to gain the interest of their readers.
